ALLIANCE FRANÇAISE OF GLASGOW SEEKS NEW TRUSTEES
The Alliance Française of Glasgow (AFG), founded in 1982, is officially recognised by the French Government as the Language and Cultural Centre for Glasgow and the west of Scotland. It offers French language courses at all levels, from the absolute beginner to the advanced user, and also promotes the diverse cultures of the French-speaking world. Our teachers are all native speakers. It maintains a well-resourced library and organises a lively programme of cultural events, including cinema screenings, a book club, yoga sessions, wine tastings and architectural tours. More information about its activities can be found on its website: Alliance Francaise Glasgow - Home
Since 2004 AFG has been based in a colocation with the Goethe Institute in Park Circus near the city centre. It is the only Alliance Française in Scotland and works in close cooperation with the Institut Français de l’Écosse (IFE) in Edinburgh. It is part of the UK and global Alliance Française network.
AFG has been a SCIO since 2019 and is subject to the requirements of OSCR. It also sends activity reports to the AF Foundation in Paris. Its revenue is usually close to £400K per annum. It has around 15 full- and part- time staff headed by a director, who is the operational head of AFG and accountable to the Board of Trustees. Further details can be found on the OSCR public register (SCO01256).
Within the next few months, we intend to recruit at least three new Trustees, and we are now seeking suitably qualified candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas: -
- Finance
- Human Resources
- Strategy and Planning
- Marketing
- Communications and Public Relations
- Legal Advice, especially employment law
A knowledge of, and/or interest in, French language and culture would also be highly relevant.
If the possibility of becoming a Trustee of AFG appeals to you, could you please indicate your interest in the first instance by sending a short CV to Dr. David Leitch, Chair of the Board of the Trustees, at davidaleitch135ATgmail.com.
